Nursery and Reception Autumn Term 2023 A very warm welcome to the Nursery and Reception class. The class teacher is Miss Williams with Miss Lawson assisting in the mornings. On a Monday afternoon Reception, Year 1 and 2 will be with Miss Hughes and Miss Elen Jones. On a Wednesday afternoon Reception, Year 1 and 2 will have an ‘Adventure and Nature’ afternoon with Miss Williams, Miss Hughes and Miss Elen Jones. On a Thursday afternoon, Reception, Year 1 and 2 will be with Miss Williams and Miss Elen Jones. Reception – Children will be given Tric A Chlic letters and books to practice at home after half term. Please record any comments and sign in the reading record book. Children should bring their reading bags to school every day. The Reception children will have a Physical Education lesson on Thursday afternoons this term. Appropriate physical education uniform will be required for the lessons and your child can keep the uniform at school and return it home to wash at the end of half term. Please ensure that all clothing has the child's name on it. They will learn to change, wear and fold clothes independently and learn rules for safety in the lessons. The Nursery children will not need uniforms this term. Our theme this term is food with the focus on the book ‘The Tiger who came to tea’ and we will be learning about different foods, where food grows, healthy and unhealthy foods and there will be the opportunity to learn how to cook / bake. We would like to encourage you to discuss the class activities with your child and to bring in any relevant Language and Literacy: We will start this term by focusing on the book 'The Tiger who came to tea'. We will use this book as a focus for our work and we will write invitations to our tea party. In addition to this, we will begin to explain and discuss work we have done, learn to answer questions in the correct way and develop language through role play, yard games and a variety of activities including ICT. We will use the Tric a Chlic scheme to learn letters, focusing on correct formation and developing reading skills. Mathematics: We will be developing maths skills through play activities in the classroom and outside and learning number songs and rhymes. We will be concentrating on learning to recognise numbers and their values, simple addition and subtraction, sorting, describing and comparing temperatures, money and mass. Health and Well-being: We will encourage the children to be independent, learn personal care habits, classroom rules, how to work together and share and behave appropriately. Children will also be taking part in ‘Saib a Symud’ (early yoga skills) and we will be running the ‘Milltir Mawr,’ (‘Big Mile’) twice a week. We will be concentrating on gymnastics, ball skills and simple team games. Learning about a healthy diet, what is safe /dangerous and learning to care for our body. We will also recognise and discuss different emotions and discuss school rules. Humanities: Our theme is ‘The Tiger who came to tea’, therefore we will be learning about different foods, where foods come from and what foods grow in our school garden. We will also have the opportunity to cook / bake foods. We will also be learning about celebrations such as Harvest Thanksgiving and Christmas. Expressive Arts: The children will use different materials and objects to make a variety of different models, using natural and recycled materials as often as possible. We will also do craft work related to tigers, bonfire night and Christmas. In the music lessons we will learn and sing a range of songs and rhymes with others and begin to play rhythmic patterns on a variety of instruments and listen to different types of music.
