Years 1 and 2 A very warm welcome to the Year 1 and 2 class, to the children and the parents. The class teacher is Miss Hughes and Miss Elen Jones is the classroom assistant. P.E. lessons will be on a Thursday afternoon. The children will need appropriate clothes and they can keep their P.E. kit at school. The P.E. kit will be sent home at the end of the half term so that you have an opportunity to wash the kit. Then, the kit needs to be returned to school at the start of the next halt term. Please could your child also have a pair of wellingtons at school- we will keep the wellingtons at school. Reading books will be changed on a Friday and the children will need to bring their reading bags to school every day. It’s very important that you read with your child every day. You are welcome to read extra books from the library or books that you have at home with your child. It’s very important that you read with your child every day and we appreciate your comments in the ‘reading record’. Please feel free to record any ‘extra books’ in the reading record. Our theme is ‘ FOOD’ and the work will be partly based on the book ‘Supertaten Llysiau Llawen,’ by Sue Hendra and adapted to Welsh by Elin Meek. We will follow some of the children’s ideas and you are welcome to discuss the theme at home with your child and offer ideas. On a Monday afternoon Reception, Year 1 and 2 will be with Miss Hughes and Miss Elen Jones. On a Wednesday afternoon Reception, Year 1 and 2 will have an ‘Adventure and Nature ‘ afternoon with Miss Williams, Miss Hughes and Miss Elen Jones On a Thursday afternoon, Reception, Year 1 and 2 will be with Miss Williams and Miss Elen Jones. Languages, Literacy and Communiacation In our language work we will be discussing and writing a personal report on their summer holiday, instructions, persuasive writing for the Eco Committe, poster, rules, letter, portrait, description, invitation and lists. Mathematics and Numeracy In our maths work we will be concentrating on place value, tens and units, odd and even numbers, addition, subtraction, money, measuring length, temperature, fractions, mass, (division and multiplication - Year 2) Months of the year. Digital Framework In our ICT work we will be concentrating on ensuring that the children can use the computers independently. We will be encouraging them to log in and log out of Hwb and Seesaw independently. Giving and following instructions and simple coding. Science and Technology We will be harvesting and learning about the vegetables in the school garden. Cooking and tasting the vegetables and cooking simple dishes. We will be learning about dangers in the environment. Discuss how our actions affect the environment. Notice how materials change when mixed together. Health and Well-being Taking part in ‘Saib a Symud’ (early yoga skills) We will be running the ‘Milltir Mawr,’ (‘Big Mile’) twice a week. In our P.E, lessons we will be concentrating on gymnastics, ball skills and simple team games. Learning about a healthy diet, what is safe /dangerous and learning to care for our body. We will also recognise and discuss different emotions and discuss school rules. Humanities Learning about and celebrating Owain Glyndŵr Day, Bonfire Night and Christmas. Discuss foods from different countries and learn where our food comes from. Expressive Arts Learning and performing songs at the Harvest and Christmas services. Reading and performing simple scripts. Learning about the artist Guieseppe Arcimboldo. We look forward to having a busy and fun time with the children, thank you for your support.
